Hi Navin,

thanks for your comments and questions. There are a number of programs that I deliver for organisations that are specifically directed to particular outcomes. For example there are programs on change management, leadership development, productivity and performance improvement and motivation.

Taking change management programs for example, the program is designed to equip participants with the key elements to consider when implementing change programs and in particular the key considerations when communicating and leading change with a team or department of individuals. The goal is to ensure that the changes are accepted, embraced and implemented with minimal resistance and maximum benefit from the change. For this I deal with processes, psychology, risk management, conflict resolution, and execution challenges. At the same I elicit audience examples for discussion and resolution and share specific case studies that illustrate techniques, strategies and results.

However, you asked about motivation and "what they are going to achieve for themselves, for their community and for this planet?" The purpose of a motivation program is to help bridge the gap between current behaviours and potential activity. The idea is to give participants insights into their current state versus their future state and how to transition. In particular it is to help them overcome barriers and hurdles that they have imposed on themselves. For example, someone may use the strategy of cynicism to find fault in others so that they can justify and rationalise staying where they are or not trying. Others may use significant levels of logic and intellectualisation to search for all the risks of change or the futility of trying. So the role of motivation is to search for the motive for action. These are typically emotion-based, and as such a powerful motivational speech will also emotionally impact participants.

My role is to give even more courage, to ensure that participants know that the power resides within them, and to renew their passion so that individuals choose to take the action that will progress achievements for themselves, for their community and the planet. I emphasise completion, for by finishing we have the possibility of a positive result. I also emphasise psychology, for by increasing our awareness of how we think, process information, behave and choose to do or delay, we have a better chance of correcting those aspects of ourselves that prevent our progress, and enhancing those aspects of ourselves that continue to deliver positive results.

Finally, motivation is about encouraging the celebration of progress, and doing it continually. Motivation is something that we need to do for ourselves daily. We have to discipline ourselves to do those things that we have determined are necessary to achieve our desired result. For example if we wish to cultivate positive habits, especially if we are trying to replace a bad habit with a more empowering habit, we need to motivate ourselves all the time. The role of a motivational speaker is to give people insights and resources to do this themselves, as well as an anchor point to a moment of decision when emotionally charged to deliver an outcome.

When someone told a famous motivator that "Motivation doesn't last" his response was "Neither does bathing, that's why we do it every day." It's our motive for action, and since our emotions vary throughout the day and from day to day, we need to ensure that we continue to motivate ourselves and those around us, encouraging them when their emotions are down, celebrating with them when progress is made or results completed.

Thanks again for your question, Navin, may more positive results be at the end of a new decision to act.

Dear Tim,
It is indeed a pleasure to know about your accomplishments. There are are some questions which I guess would also intrigue you. What is exactly the end result of your motivational programs on your participants? I mean what are they going to achieve for themselves, for their community and for this planet? What would be the final outcome of this enancement of acquisitive & competitive tendencies of people in general?
If at all I am ambiguous in my questions then do let me know.

Best regards,
Navin Kumar
